Protecting Our Own: Adelante Safety Campaign Brings Free Security Cameras to Central Mississippi

In a powerful display of community-led change, Adelante has launched a safety campaign aimed at protecting some of the most vulnerable members of our community by installing free security cameras across Central Mississippi. Since the campaign began in April 2025, ten households in Canton, South Jackson, Carthage, Morton, and Forest have already benefited from the effort—each now equipped with a camera system to help deter crime and bring peace of mind.

This household has endured the heartbreaking deportation of two family members—both husbands and primary breadwinners—within just two weeks. Their absence has left a deep emotional and financial impact on the family.

This initiative isn't about flashy headlines or big corporate sponsors. It's about neighbors looking out for neighbors. The campaign was created to support single working parents, seniors, disabled individuals, and those living in high-crime neighborhoods—people who often face the greatest risks with the fewest resources. The goal is simple but critical: make our communities safer, one home at a time.

This home is supported by a single mother living with a disability. Despite her landlord neglecting basic maintenance—including a broken front door and numerous other issues—she says this is the safest place she’s found in Canton so far.

Security shouldn't be a privilege—it should be a right. And thanks to the incredible support of Saint James Episcopal and its dedicated congregation, that vision is becoming a reality. Their generosity provided the momentum and resources to launch the campaign, and their continued involvement is a shining example of faith in action. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the church leaders and every member of the congregation who donated time, funds, or simply spread the word.

The Adelante team walks residents through the installation process step by step, offering hands-on guidance. Many community members are unfamiliar with technology, making this personal support an essential part of the campaign’s success.

This campaign proves that change doesn’t always have to come from the top down. When people come together at the grassroots level—when churches, neighbors, and everyday citizens unite around a common purpose—they can spark real transformation.
