Community Stories
The Adelante mission comes to life through the resilience and growth of those we serve. These are the voices of our Jackson community, moving forward together.
"I didn't know what to do. My house was gone, my husband was in the hospital, I was out of work and my kids out of school. Adelante found me a lawyer. He helped us and won our case. I am very grateful"
Maria R
When a faulty dryer caught fire and burned down their home, María's family lost nearly everything. Her husband suffered third-degree burns, and with three children, no job and medical bills incoming, she had no idea where to turn or who to trust.
Adelante helped her find a trustworthy attorney who took her case — and won.
Today, María's family is rebuilding. What could have been a story of total loss became one of resilience, because someone showed up to walk beside her when the road was hardest.
"I was sick and scared. I don't speak English well. They came with me to the doctor every time. I was not alone. That meant everything to me."
Rolando V
At 66 years old, Rolando faced one of the most frightening journeys a person can face — cancer treatment, with rounds of radiation and chemotherapy that left him exhausted and overwhelmed.
He didn't have to face it alone.
one of our volunteers accompanied him to his medical appointments, making sure he was understood, supported, and never lost in a system that can feel impossible to navigate on your own.
"The accident was not my fault but the police report was wrong and I didn't know how to fix it. They helped me with that, with food, with clothes. They helped me with everything. I don't know what I would have done."
Manuela C
When another driver crashed into Manuela, the situation quickly became more complicated than the accident itself. The police report was filed with incorrect information, leaving her vulnerable and without recourse.
Adelante stepped in. We provided translation support, helped her understand her rights, connected her a trustworthy lawyer.
